Since you live in Long Beach, you might be interested in the Wilderness Travel Course (Long Beach/South Bay section) run by the Sierra Club. Course runs from Jan 20 (this coming Wed!) to March 24, 2010, Wednesdays at 7:30 PM. There are also four weekend outings. The course teaches navigation, rock scrambling, snow travel/camping and more. Cost includes bus transportation.
You will learn a lot and meet new hiking friends. The web site is www.wildernesstravelcourse.org. -
Hello John - Welcome to The Long Beach Canyon Hikers. I know what you're saying when you state that you 'need an excuse to get out for a hike'!
